Julian Coulden

A very experienced senior manager, with excellent operational and project management skills, having worked in both public and independent healthcare. He is well adapted to frequent organisational change and a demanding management agenda. A good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, successful people management and motivational skills, and a proven management development coach.

Julian’s early career was in NHS hospital management as Deputy Hospital Manager – Cheltenham, Hospital Manager – Exeter and at the London Chest Hospital. He then moved to the private sector as General Manager Operations and Quality Improvement BUPA Hospitals HQ. He was promoted to have Corporate level responsibility for regulatory compliance on behalf of 35 independent hospitals in the UK, with national regulations, inspection and quality standards, regulated by the Healthcare Commission, the government health care regulator

Julian has been an independent consultant to both public and independent healthcare organisations since 2005.

Some Recent Assignments and Projects

  • Appointed to advise and assist the Manchester Heart Centre, Manchester Royal Infirmary in its implementation of Health Quality Service Accreditation (CHKS)
  • Appointed by Nations Healthcare Ltd an independent ISTC healthcare provider, to assist in the operational development and implementation of a wide variety of corporate and business unit operational issues
  • Successfully lead and project managed the preparation for a newly built ISTC, to obtain its Healthcare Commission and CCMU registration
  • Assisted Circle Healthcare on their acquisition of Nations Healthcare, in mid 2007, to introduce changes and modifications to many of the corporate governance structures in line with their company ideology and to rewrite key documents expressing changes in key positions
  • Appointed by Circle, to assist and support the introduction and development of operational policies and procedures for Circle Clinic in Stratford-upon-Avon. Established their Integrated Governance Committee structure. Also drafted service level agreements for the purchase of clinical services from local NHS Trust and private providers
  • Appointed by the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust to review a discreet patient records/governance management problem, suggest a solution and implement it. Successfully achieved.
